| LUKE SIMMONS |
Cowgirlboy 5042 |
And In His Blue Mountain Boys |
● LP $13.98 |
Country music from New Zealand? Strange but true, and it's
quite good too! Luke Simmons was originally from Canada though he moved to
New Zealand a while before these recordings were made and I assume the
rest of his band is from New Zealand. Simmons is a decent singer, very
much in the Wilf Carter vein and his band provides some solid
accompaniments with some very nice steel guitar. Most of the songs are
originals including Hey Baby/ Down Where The Meadowlarks Sing/ Drifting
On The Sea Of Love/ Deep Sea Jamboree/ Cup Of Joy, etc. This album was
out some years ago on another label so you might want to check your
collection. (FS)

● LP $13.98 |
Jerry Smith was born in Virginia but setled in owa where he
gained fame as Iowa's Favorite Yodeling Cowboy. The material here is
varied ranging from the late 30s through the late 50s. In spite of his
sobriquet most of the material here is mainstream country with very little
cowboy music of yodeling! Pleasant enough but not terribly memorable. (FS)
