Stoppin' The Traffic |
● CD $18.98 |
Originally formed in St. Louis in 1920 as Wilson Robinson's
Syncopaters they went through various incarnations and ended up in New York
and under the new leadership of Andrew Preer became the house band at the
Cotton Club under the name of Andrew Preer's Cotton Club Orchestra. They
were superseded by Duke Ellington and subsequently became The Missourians.
They were joined by Cab Calloway in 1930 and he eventually took over the
group. This collection features 24 sides recorded between 1924 and 1930,
prior to Calloway's arrival and includes sides by The Seminole Syncopaters,
Harry's Happy Four, Andy Preer's Cotton Club Orchestra and, of course, The
Missourians. There are also three tracks accompanying blues singer Sara
Martin on three of her more pop oriented songs.
