A very nice effort by this husband and wife duo, both
veterans of the bay area traditional music scene. They receive able support
from friends George Winston, Kevin Wimmer, and on the cajun numbers from
accordionist Danny Poullard, among others. Suzy is a superb classic blues
interpreter, and excellent fiddler in the cajun, country blues, and old time
country idioms, and Eric is a skilled guitarist and mandolinist,
particularly on the raggy kind of country blues of Blind Boy Fuller and
others. The cajun numbers here include Basile Waltz/ Valse De Balfa/
Danse De Poullard, and Chaussettes Noirs. The blues include
Adam And Eve Had The Blues, In My Girlish Days, Mean Old Bedbug Blues,
and Blame It On The Blues. Also included here is the Mississippi
Sheiks' Stop And Listen, a nice reworking of Corrinna, Corrinna
for their little girl, an old time country number called Carrol County
Blues, and a nice gospel song called When I Get Home. My favorite
cut is the ragtime medley called the Three In One Two Step,
incorporating The Entertainer, Dill Pickle Rag, and I Don't Love
Nobody. (RP)
